However, this course in our vast world also has to do with individual and community experiences on a much smaller scale and, perhaps, more pleasing to the spirit, as is the case that I lived.

Without intentions to migrate to foreign land, only with some thirst to know people and landscapes, artists and unknown works, with my Argentinean passport in hand, and a pretty rusty English, I took a low-coast flight from the Treviso airport in Italy and then a long distance bus. Finally, I came to a festival that rejoices in its youth but also has mystique: The Light Moves Festival.

Photo: Dance Limerick Church (By Quinn Architects).

This meeting takes place every November for the last four years, in the city of Limerick, at the heart of South Ireland, and is organized and curated by Jürgen Simpson and Mary Wycherley, an artistic-academic couple who project their great warmth in each of the activities that make up the Festival.

Particularly, my most active participation (not counting the one I played at the local pub every night) was developed at the symposium. Screendance symposia are still rare creatures that take shape in the shadow of festivals and their screening rooms that are increasingly filled with audiences, and that slowly come to light because of their strong point: the democratization of reflection and the word around the technological body and its movement. However, in the case of the Light Moves Symposium 2017, the event played a definitive role, starting with its location in the so-called Dance Limerick Church, which is a true historical monument: the San Juan Church, rebuilt in 1852 from the original, dated to the year 1200 and, continuing for the sessions, that counted with the participation of artists, academics, curators and students, especially from Northern Europe. And there, between blonde hair and blue eyes, to my great surprise and joy, I met a great friend, the Brazilian Leonel Brum, current globetrotter of dance-tech.

The discussions were very attentive, respectful, curious, attracted wide participation, and they left me the idea that the compass thinking about our field of interest does not mark a north or a south because the desire to know more and the urge to share what has been learned don´t know about latitudes or borders.

Light Moves is curated by Jürgen Simpson and Mary Wycherley and produced by Dance Limerick, in partnership with DMARC (Digital Media and Arts Research Centre) at University of Lime-rick. The festival is supported by the Arts Council, Limerick City and County Council and the JP McManus Fund.

[39

post-883","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-festivales","ediciones-loie-00","autores-susana-temperley
["GET
